Physio Recommendations - Hip Injury

I'm reaching out for recommendations on a good physical therapist on the shore. My damned DH bike spat me out on my hip a couple weeks ago, and aside from not being 100% sure things aren't broken, I know my physio journey needs to start soon. Never dealt with a significant hip injury before, and I've been on crutches since it happened.

Who's good/great/amazing?  I'm usually a pretty stubborn, "I'll be fine" type of self healer, so I haven't got a good reference base on local physio, but I know I won't get away with the ignore-and-heal method this time.

I guess this is what I get for doing the same things at 43 that I did when I was 20, but I'm really looking forward to getting as much of a jump on this as possible, and hopefully back at it in a month or so.

Phyiso, it would seem, is a lot like mountain bikes in that there are many good options and most people tend to recommend whatever/whoever they use.

I had multiple riding friends recommend Dorothy Smith after my Achilles rupture and on top of helping with my recovery process, her forthright risk assessment was so helpful in managing my need to get outside and move and my goal to be back riding with Claire as soon as possible.

She’s also been instrumental in getting me back to life, back to riding, back to work, and managing the stuff that still keeps coming up with my back since I was hit by a car in December.

She’s not a mountain biker, if that matters to you.

If you have any questions please reach out. I could get you some other references or perspectives from friends who see her regularly (welcome to your 40s). Really though, again like bikes, you might have to try a few to know what works for you.

When it comes to physio, the good/great/amazing is a result which depends on you doing the exercises as prescribed.

For me, its proximity and ease to visit at https://nssm.ca

Thanks Andrew. I recall reading about your positive experiences with her. I appreciate the recommendation.

"there are many good options and most people tend to recommend whatever/whoever they use."  Indeed, that's what I expected, but I had hoped there might  be a few more opinions offered by now. The NV bike injuries per capita must be right up there.

Thanks Heckler. And of course, you only get what you put in. It's not my first physio rodeo, but it is my first in a long time.

Actually, I asked this morning out of curiosity and Dorothy said that with the dry trail conditions she’s seen an abnormally high number of riders in with shoulder issues from crashing this summer.

This morning wasn’t the first time that I was leaving physio and one of my riding friends was on the way in to see Dorothy for her next appointment, so definitely my experience matches this.

A vote for Dorothy as well from here. Everybody as nssm is incredible, Dorothy happened to be the PT that was available and she fixed and provided the ongoing exercises that have kept my tendon issues sorted (also achilles as well coincidentally).
Additionally, my daughter is just finishing up her final concussion therapy visits and they have been in-depth and accurate and provided the means and a path out of the problems caused by it.

Another vote for NSSM.  The Deep Cove crew (and occasionally Brooksbank) have been helping me with biking and hockey injuries for years.

Awesome guys, thanks for the feedback! I just booked an appointment with Dorothy for next week.

I can definitely see the dry conditions this year causing an uptick in crashes/injuries.

So we on for coffee after our next respective appointments?  ;)

So why did no one join us for 6:30 am Friday yoga at NSSM Brooksbank?

I whole heartedly agree with all of this.  Especially the part about doing the exercises you are prescribed.

But I can't overstate the importance of proximity.  Keep things close and it makes getting to/from appointments simpler.

Well I went to my first appointment with Dorothy (NSSM), and another is booked for this Friday. It went well, I was reassured that my timeline for recovery is normal per the type of injury, and waiting for a few weeks of healing prior to physio was a good plan. I'm currently walking without apparatus and smashing out my strengthening exercises every day, hoping to be riding within the week.

Thanks for the advice!
