Riding with a dog

Typically, it's not the dog's fault. It's the idiot owner who doesn't have the dog on leash / not trained / out of control etc. That video I posted...what if there was a little kid present or someone who could not defend themselves well? It could have ended up very bad.

I came across a commercial dog walker while riding up the Fromme climb trail last week.

Dogs were totally out of control and chasing/barking at me to the point I was bracing myself for an impending nip on my calf. Super frustrating. Some are ok, but some of these people actually make money off the backs of trailbuilders yet seem to give zero fucks about people actually using recreational trails for recreation. Seems insane.

Never really sure how to handle these situations, as escalation never seems to help, my general tactic is to evade, but I am sadly not fit enough to out run crazy dogs whilst pedalling up the executioner connector. Lol

I have used my bike as a barrier in the past, most people are somewhat contrite when I'm "enthusiastically" requesting they get their dogs under control. But some pro dog walkers seem eager for conflict (especially on the Socially Distanced Descent which was "stolen by bikers").

Ima pack pepper spray and a knife when I go out in the trails.  Had to use the spray once when jogging at night on the trails.  A German Shepard and a Rottweiler attacked me.  Couldn't find a good club so I   sprayed them good.  It was funny watching then after being sprayed - sneezing like crazy.

A friend of mine got bit by Johnny Smoke's dog years ago. No apology, just rode off. Thanks, buddy.

A friend spent many thousands $$$ on canine hip replacements after years of DH riding with pooch.  Was it worth it?

If you choose to take your dog in the forest (or anywhere), please take your shit-bags home with you. .

I saw 4 plastic dog shit bags during my ride on Sunday. These lame dog owners sometimes claim they were going to pick it up & dispose of it on their way back. There seems to be a lot of forgetful dog owners out there, hence a lot of bags on the ground.

Took The Len out on the trail last night, old boy was stoked to be out there and me and the boys were stoked to have him back.

Obligatory shitty night ride pic of the worlds most beautiful coat of dog fur:
