Climbing Trail to CBC

Ah, so Cambodia is still closed.

Anyone know the beta on the other trails?  Several months ago I saw something on IG about Dream Wizards doing some work on Orleans (and which I hiked up the upper part of last week) but no sign of any recent/current activity that I could see...

I presume there's some sort of Metro Van/NSMBA masterplan to get their money's worth from the CBC/Cabin Fever trail work to provide additional trail options back to Bottletop or Hyannis

there's an ambitious chunk of new trail getting punched into that zone currently (mid cambodia/iceland to end of neds). i guess they're looking for an easier / more direct hyannis exit than climbing greenland (with the assumption that cambodia will see lots more traffic)?

Yeah per my post a couple posts back I saw new work on something other than Cambodia as well, i thought it was Orleans but I don't know that zone well, it could well have been totally new, it was definitely in progress and not rideable at the time.

Interestingly, no mention of "official" closure...

2023 East Side Network Trail Upgrades

In addition to on-going maintenance and patrolling on the east side of the LSCR Trail network, work crews are working away on TNT and Cambodia Trails over the summer months.

The lower section of the historic TNT Trail will see significant upgrades to create a hiking/multi-use loop using the Cambodia Trail.

Cambodia Trail, difficulty rating single black with double black features, is undergoing upgrades to trail tread, drainage and re-routes.

Bryce is correct. Suck it up and pedal Old Buck to the lookout, then over to CBC.

This route is 1) very difficult, and 2) hiking only per BC Parks. But its climbable.

Deep Green was originally built as a climbing trail from Greenland to middle Iceland and Cambodia. But now has been taken over by a machine built downhill bermed flow trail, that does not appear to be multi-use or multi-directional.

The machine operator/trail builder (didn't get name) said there is no plan for a climbing trail.

The corduroy skid road makes a great climbing trail.

Definitely status bro. I've mostly been riding weekday WFH lunch rides, but happened to be at Seymour at 4:30pm last Friday (sunny, before massive rain forecast, which turned out not to be so massive) and the scene was ridiculous compared to a few years ago.

No doubt.

I remember "discovering" Cambodia when it had been abandoned many years ago - it was like a Raiders of the Lost Ark find. And then I told a few people and they told a few people and here we are. There was this brief moment when I thought do I tell anyone about this or just ride it by myself. First person I shared it with was Hawkins. Turns out sharing secrets with riding buds is way more fun than keeping them to yourself. Who would have guessed eh? Derek Dix had a pic of the first rock roll posted here on the old board titled "Cambodia" and every once in a while people would ask about it but nobody said anything. It's wild how things have changed since the early 2000's. Even wilder to think about some of the things people were riding on the bikes (and tires!) that existed back then. What a time to be alive for a mtb'er. Although sometimes I wish we could go back to the ethos of that time.

Hey everybody, long time no chat!  Hey, whats the deal now with riding cbc this time of year AND the darkside??

I hadnt been up seymour in ages and went for a hike at the top with the wife on saturday and the CBC lot was full of bikes and every lil lot on the way up had multiple vehicle with bike racks parked on the east side of the road. Is it just a free for all now?

cheers

just go to Trailforks to see if CBC is open.... if it's not on TF, don't talk about it on a public forum.  Seriously, what is wrong with people.

So, it's ok to discuss these trails cos they're on Trailforks?

That's not Trailforks tho, that's Happy Wappy's Fappy Mappy site.

But hey, we all knew the day was coming when maps on the internet would show everything as there was always going to be some nitwit who was willing to post up shit they shouldn't.

One OSM user has been quite active adding "misc mtb trails" on Seymour. They've even posted their philosophy on secret vs public:

Regarding “secret” features

I understand some may believe the features I have added are “secret”. My philosophy surrounding secret features is to only add those that are frequently visited and/or widely known and referenced (i.e., they’re no longer secret). If it’s a borderline case, I will add the feature but leave out specific tags that ensure the feature does not show up on carto and on data consumers (websites/apps) but is still viewable by rescue services. If you would like for me to explain why I believe a specific feature is no longer secret then please do not hesitate to reach out. I also welcome feedback regarding my philosophy and what measures should be used to determine if a feature is no longer secret.

Hopefully the people this user rides with stop sharing information with them and give them a talking to in terms of what is public and what is not. Their philosophy on this is bullshit there are always lots that do not know about particular trails no matter how well used one thinks the secret trail is.

eerib - looks like they spend a lot of time on Bowen Is. making edits.
