He did say Arcteryx "SL", which in the case of the Alpha (hip length, a bit longer in the back that makes it perfect for cycling), is $280. Considering some of the comments here about poor construction of the Chute, I'd say the extra $80 for a dead bird gore-tex piece, albeit it the paclite fabric, is more than worthwhile. The FL is $450.

As far as I can remember, there is no marked shoulder at all. There is an elevated sidewalk with no guardrail, so there is potential for a cyclist or pedestrian to fall into traffic, although I don't believe that was the case here.

This stuff makes me cringe. No excuse for the driver, they have commited a crime and I hope they are caught and prosecuted to the full extent of the law. But seriously man, why are you riding over the Granville st bridge, let alone without a helmet on? With so many options to get in or out of DT on a bike, I have little to no sympathy for this guy.

How do you get the message across to these people? They make all cyclists look bad.

Gotta say, quite the ride. Long low and slack. Takes everything 100% on the chin, no squabbling, just plows through everything, doesn't really require "finesse". Bit of a tank. But a very fun, nimble and fast tank.

Sanch, how do you find it on the climbs compared to your Trance? I'm coming off a spesh enduro 26 and am concerned about how much I'll be sacrificing in the climbing department. I'm having a tough time looking at anything else, the value just seems so good here, but worried it'll be too sluggish uphill.

Also, agreed the colour is much better in the flesh.

I currently have the same short list as mentioned above, but I couldn't help jumping in the new CX-9 yesterday. Fast, smooth, quiet, and pretty darn handsome if you ask me. If you are moving people and gear regularly, I would recommend giving it at least a cursory look.

How much rain is coming down up there right now? I am trying to make a decision on tire choice. I am running a semi slick rear tire at the moment, but I'm worried that it will get packed up really quickly.

Anyone have recommendations for a place for rentals?

With young kids in tow, it's just too much hassle to bring my own bike. Last couple times I've just rented from Whistler, which was fine, but…

I do I just rent the same model of bike I already own (Reign), would be nice to try out some cool different bike… and/or save money on a rental.

If this is the only time you're going to get up there this year, I would recommend the Whistler Demo center. You pay a bit of a premium, but they have 5-6 different DH bikes and you can try a few over the weekend. You could also do DH bikes one day then grab a trail bike the next if you want to explore outside the park.

I would echo jerry's comment. It sounds like you have too much bike for the type of riding that you do. That said, I have heard that the Nomad doesn't give up much to the Bronson on the climbs, and gives you a bike that you could progress into if you want to take your riding to the next level. The nomad also does well in the bike park, if you're into that kind of thing. But if you don't see your riding style changing, it sounds like you would be better suited on a smaller more nimble bike.

This really needs to happen. My best memories of Stevie are of cheering him on at Crankworx, you always got the feeling that he pushed a bit harder for the home crowd. Here's a pic I captured of him on Lower Canadian Open, right before he crossed the line for the win. It feels a bit more special now…

Awesome news, love a story with a happy ending! I had a similar situation, cops actually did show up, and managed to get my bike back.

As an aside, my car window was smashed last Friday in East Van, crooks stole a bag which was unfortunately loaded with a bunch of cycling gear. It sucks that we can't have nice things. Part of me wishes you unleashed the bear mace on those assholes…
