I know of a few boys from my neighbourhood that mentioned they did some work on Bobsled. I told them its not cool to do and that they need to speak to the trail builder first, they are 13 and excited to help out.

I'm not sure they built the booters, but i will talk to them about it.

I don't think they smoke though.

On a more serious note; the amount of dog dirt deposited on the north shore is having a significant impact on surface water quality in the downgradient recieving environment. Streams below dog walking areas can contain as much as 2,000 - 4,000 fecal coliform units per 100 ml. Upgradient stream samples typically contain less than 10 but may peak to 40 CFM/100 ml. The recreation guideline is 200 CFM/100ml above which contact with the surface water body is not recommended and can result in stomach upset and skin rashes.

As for why I am stepping in it all the time. I stop to stretch my hamstrings, grab a drink and fine tune my saddle height, pro-pedal etc once i get above the gate, I usually do this between the gate and the drinking fountain, and usually on the east side of the road. It seem like me or one of my riding friends almost always hits a pile. either stepping in it or rolling thru it.

I now look carefully before i roll onto the shoulder anywhere near the gate.

i am surprised at the direction this post took, i expected more reaction to the 400 plus shits per week and thought someone would react to the 21,000 craps per year.

As for KNN's stats, there is a major creek right at the gate, and I bet the fecal matter in it is way higher than the other main creeks off that slope.

As for the argument that all animals crap in the woods. I would assume there are lots of small rodents, the occasional raccoon family, a few coyotes, maybe 1 cougar and a small number of bears on the entire south slope, this is a tiny load compared to the concentration of Dogs near the gate. And as stated earlier, their diets are much different than the local wildlife's diet.

What can we do about all the Dog Crap above the Gate on Fromme?

is it just me or does it seem like no matter where you step off your bike on the sides of the service road above the gate, you step in it. I am like a magnet for finding it.

I did some quick math and wanted to share it with the board. I'm thinking about writing this in to the North Shore News. We get slammed for the MTB's impact on the environment, but after the summary below, I am more concerned about the run off of this Poop into the water table than I am about bike trails.

For this exercise, lets say a dog has been holding it in the car on his way for a run in the woods above the gate. he jumps out of the car and runs up above the gate to relieve itself. the owners assume "oh, its in the forest, so I don't have to pick it up" and they head off for their hike. - no big deal right.

Now lets assume 60 people take their dogs for a walk above the gate / day. (5 dogs per hour x 12 hours)

this = 60 pile of crap in one day (most near the gate)
= 420 piles in 1 week
= 1,680 piles in 1 month
= 21,840 PER YEAR!

now i know this stuff breaks down in the rain, so they only stick around on the surface for about 2 to 3 weeks, but still

21,000 craps running down the hill and into the frog pond can't be good.

Please pick up after your dog.

i have much respect for Ryan and his contributions the trials - no set ups etc, but the stuff Danny is doing had my Jaw on the floor for the entire flick.

the opening front flip of the castle wall is sick. so are the front wheel pivot to 180 drops.

I was couriering in 1991 when Roach was first launched.
The Courier Bags were great / practical (FYI Ingrid was a courier)
she was making frame pads with a small "secret" pocket under the ROACH label where you could stash your cash / roaches.

Mine was full most days. I still have the original pad from 1992 (purple) in my basement.

I bought the Race Face Roach - knees and elbows recently - the Hard shell ones - i had been riding original soft shells for years. i don't like the hard shells as much since they don't protect the back of your leg and the velcro straps are too short to fit my calves - and I bought the large ones. the ankle strap is even too short - and I have never been told i have fat ankles.

Ingrid has a small shop that does custom work on the north shore- she is located on Esplanade near St Georges.

I still have fond memories of the Roach brand back in those days, I still ride a Roach Jersey, Roach shorts and both my kids are rockin roach jerseys too.

i just sorted the semi finalists by votes and counted how many were ahead of the "Trails for All" proposal.

we still can do way better than 15th.

We need way more votes for the "Trails for All" proposal for the grant.

some of the Ideas have close to 30,000 votes, Trails for all has 4000.
