Great story and photography! I was just in Southern Chile/Patagonia and am also looking at adding some bike adventures to a next trip. Look forward to a follow up report if and when you get to it!

Ah OK, that clarifies!
"should you trust someone reviewing the mountain biking features of a watch from the Netherlands?"
I'm confused, I thought the watch is from Finland?
Are you saying that's the (likely) reason Ibis doesn't offer size-specific, different length chainstays? Or that flip chip dropouts affect the axle to pivot relationship in a different way compared to a size-specific swingarm?
Thanks! I was actually referring more to when it is swung out and all the weight is hanging on the spindle, that's my bigger concern. I have the same bumper and closing mechanism and agree that when it's closed it's a super solid setup! Either way, nice rig and bike!
I have a similar setup but haven't added the second hitch carrier for the bike rack due to concern over weight on the single pivot spindle. So I have to take the bike off before using the swing-out. I see Sean is running his spare plus water cans, plus the bike and seems just fine. Any issues with weight or potentially overloading the spindle?
You know what the folks at Shimano (and SRAM, and the majority of the bike industry, and their shareholders) love even more than bikes? Profit. And that's what this is ultimately about. It's a rat race to find the next big thing for consumers to spend money on. Those consumers do so willingly and I'm sure some of this new technology will result in enjoyment for a bunch of people, but let's not pretend they are innovating for the sake of the sport or the love of bikes.
Scrolled down to price and saved myself 11 minutes!
I’ll chime in on the silicon strips. I only hand wash mine and have had the same issue. Still usable, but definitely not as grippy or staying in place as well. That’s after a year of use and maybe 3-4 hand washes (and yes, they’re stinky). It’s a bummer but I'll probably replace these with another set of rifts this summer or might go for one of the not so bulky 7idp’s.
This was super cool, thank you!

Shakedown ride on the triple hardtail today!
This was a pretty slow build, found an older On One Inbred frame locally this summer and wanted to build it up as a rigid SS utilitarian bike initially and keep it to a relatively low budget. Slowly amassed the parts and got it built up over the holidays for the most part. Gearing is currently set up 32x18 which is a workout around here for sure. Ultimately, the bike may accompany me to Europe this summer to do some bikepacking on flatter terrain so the gearing will work there. Might also tinker with a 1x5 setup on the Hope singlespeed hub, we'll see..
A few post-ride lean pics:
If this is 26", then I recently inherited one of these frames. What's the A-C on the fork? I've thought about swapping the parts off my DMR commuter, but the higher BB has me wondering if I'd prefer prefer a shorter fork. (DMR has a Surly 483mm)
Hey, this is one of their 29er frames. I am running a Kona Unit rigid fork with 470 A-C and seems to work well geometry wise.

No major changes, and I will be buying the bike I already have. But how could I not. This Tyee is an incredible beast who happily climbs up whatever I have cardio to crank. She just got a full new fresh set of Continental rubber before this trip. Though that Cane Creek Tigon Coil over Air looks like a rad unit Id like to get some time on so we shall see what 2024 Holds. Though I did buzz the bejeebus out of my backside on the Boogieman coaster so maybe this year I get 'Hot for Mullet'...
Nice Tyee! Gotta say I like the mullet option on the new Tyee, less buzzing and really enjoying the smaller rear wheel in general.
I should probably also admit that I am fairly tempted to save parts from the Inbred and transfer them over to one of those blue Dirt Trackers. Such a rad looking bike! I'm not sold on the 29+ platform and also do like the more nimble geometry of the On One but yeah, definitely getting the feels on that Stooge.

Michel - It's always good to see another Cotic. What travel are you running on yours? (i'm sure I have asked before but my memory isn't that good these days).
Hi Marty, I'm running 130mm and think it hits a good sweet spot for general trail riding (I leave the gnarlier stuff for my FS these days) and bikepacking. I like your rigid setup, these are very versatile frames for sure! I'm working on a semi-parts bin rigid/SS side project to scratch that itch :)
Happy New Year!
Despite frequent temptations, I have no plans to stray from my Propain Tyee this year. It's a fun, versatile and capable bike. Currently running a mullet setup with coil for winter, back to 29ers and air shock for summer will make it feel more agile and efficient on longer days.
Happy New Year All!
No resolutions other than getting more bike adventures in this year, so to that end I'll post a throwback to sunnier and warmer times :)

I keep seeing FS bikes from way before that and I wonder if they're really of any use at all. Old rigid and hardtail bikes can easily live on as commuter or "gravel" bikes, but sometimes like a Klein Manta, Trek Fuel 99, etc? It seems like they would be better of as recycled aluminum at this point, or for someone who just collects for the aesthetics of older bikes.
Yeah, I think you’re on point there. I have a friend who rides a circa 2008 specialized enduro and it works fine for him. I think the main caveat is that he has no frame of reference, has never been on a “modern” bike and sticks to mostly mellow trails and maybe rides once a month. You on the other hand know how your modern hardtail rides and if that were me, I’d have a hard time coming to terms with what is in most aspects old and relatively clunky technology..

W didn't expect to have a snow ride today, but it was fun to play in the white stuff.
I love snow riding so this ended up being a nice treat.
Nice! Must have been a good bit colder on your side, still well in the 40s here..

Final incarnation for some time now.
That's a great looking bike, with a nice and sensible spec!
