I regret selling a schinn sierra frameset (1986) that bought new in Ann Arbour Mich. It had all the welding ons for racks and I rode western uplands in Algonquin park before they knew what mtb's were and banned them there. It was as really well made frame. I always had built my bikes up since high school. My next bike wsa 88 GT karakoram with a ll the upgrades of the time (full deore) scot at 4 bars , odyssey seat post pump which still works , salsa stem and the very first clipless mtb pedals made (look sport). This bike I still have in pretty minty condition with all the parts except my Hite rite seat spring adjuster, a had road wheels custom made for it at one point and fitted a 53 tooth chainrinng and and got it working pretty well in 3x setup.(took awhile though).

Im with you:) Still running my hope evos with wtb frequency ust rims 4 yers now.Actually also running 26 with 2x9 but with oval 2x chainrings and carbon xo shifters and ders. That xo stuff just won't die.
LycraTard strava jerks. Probably ride road bikes too. ime roadies break every road rule and are rude as fxxk. EG riding back down road from circuit 8 during my knee rehab time I was turning off left to go on a side trail just after hard ride corner on the outside of corner marked as a slow zone. , I signalled left and almost got creamed by an asshole roadie passing me on the left in the oncoming lane at warpspeed on the outside of the turn (again this is well marked slow zone) . He proceeded to scream at me like it was my fault for him almost T boning me. Fxxking typical roadie jerk.
I am surprised NSMB never reviews SMP saddles. I have tried a lot of saddles and the SMP Hell is fantastic Ergomic saddle. The bent down nose overs a very comfortable perch for climbing and never snags on your shorts if they droop.
Ive been using wtb tcs rims for quite awhile. They set set up tubeless so easy and are tough as dirt. Currently using a i23 frequency rear and a i25 KOM front. Bombroof setup. NEVER BURPS sealant with low pressures..
Ive been riding my custom built "franken bike B6er" a 26rear /650 front wheel 1st gen slopestyle team edition GT Distortion 26er with a 2012 26er 36 fox float kashima 140mm fork (with 37mm offset)for 4 years now with a 650B front wheel (yes it fits fine) funny how this "newly" spot lighted spec is suddenly a big deal. It sits with 65" head angle but is still good in tight turns. However slap a 26 on the front bike feels like a BMX so much more playful..
I have fox 36 ith 20mm axle that has a qr for each leg. It is bombproof and an aluminum qr lever weights 3 grams.(next to nothing) My rear is still on an old school QR even though I have all the parts to run a 12mm maxle) not the flawed maxle light). I just have not had any problems ever.
After nearly foling my left knee sideways snowboarding last year. Im rehabbing my knee and back on the flats. Spd's I love too but a few crashes aI've had either would not have happened or would have been not so bad If I had been on flats. Flats are comfy to. My strava rewards like spd's , but I like my knees more.
I've been riding and building up bikes since th early 80's. Bike specs always sucked this is not a new thing.Unless you want to pay the "dentist tax" and by the top end model.
There has always been actual value in building frame up. But you need to be resourceful and plan where your are getting your parts from. For instance i picked up a foxfloat factory 36 kashima 2012 160m as new take off in 2013 for 400 bucks. Saved 700 right there.

In2016 I had a LEFT KNEE 50% mcl tear 10acl and tibial head plateau compression fracture , (got cut off by a ski school pack and hit a pole at grouse. No surgery and did extensive rehab on my own mostly. I came back from that and got 30's days bording the following season.
Cut to this year ,,, feb 8 after a short period of LEFT knee pain occuring at work it gave out stepping out of the mobile kitchen (Been a chef my whole life now 52) I was working in on SET somehow managed to tear my meniscus and then some. I'm sure wear tear from 30+myears of standing at work played a part.
Fortunately since it was at work WCB kicked in , I had MRI and surgery within 3 months however swelling was considerable and has taken a very long time to go away and knee still feels like crap when standing for extended periods. The surgery was 25% meniscusectomy , debraiding and scraping , yuck .I have been going to physio religiously (except the last month since I caught pneumonia from someone there somehow) .
MY ligaments are in good shape and I have I now have a custom CTI knee brace (matching the my left knee lol) but I have been deemed partly disable through wcb etc ! The knee still feels crappy though I can ride my bike mostly seated without much problem , although I have been only riding climbing trails and xc stuff so I don't wreck it worse.
Anybody have meniscus surgery and what was your experience. Mostly did it get better ? How long?
Thanks
Erik
I run the 2.3 dhr2 TR exo in the summer(rear)
dhr2 3C TR exo when it gets wet (rear)
dhf 2.3 3c TR exo (front) all year round. I have never found a better all round tire set up.
On the tubeless ust certified wtb rims they set up up rock solid seal, never had a tire burp ever.

Get the Cane Creek 'dialed' app for your phone. Helps setting up and keeping track of what setting work, and what dont.
I looked into the app but my frame is not on there. Ive been using ios app called bikesetup to track and record my settings .Great App
Here's a pic of the Dbair iL shock installed:)
I saw those , just wondering about personal experiences of anybody who has one:) S werx set it up for me @Baseline settings, I've ridden it 3 times now , it is worlds ahead of my rp23 which apparently was not 100%. When I have time I want to do some trailside adjustments to try and improve it.
My rp23 finally packed it in and no parts for my size now. I upgraded to a DB Air iL shock. Anybody have have set up hints ?
I fixed the problem with a softride anti sway locking hitch pin , completely eliminates side to side sway.

cool thats what I was thinking...
HI everyone!
I'll be turning 50 soon and my wife is planning on taking me to whistler for a romantic biking getting away. We will NOT be riding in the bike park as I am coming of a serious knee injury (MCL . acl tear and tibial head compression fracture. We will only be riding xc trails (me in my fancy new Carbon fiber knee brace..
Looking for a hotel that has really good bike storage security?
Any suggestions?
Ive been riding DOVAL brand oval rings for 4 years now. They are the only ones that make 2x oval systems. They have 5 positions for power point. Im running 21/34 with 11/36 out back. Very easy on the knees climbs like goat:)
