My name is Spela Horvat (21) and I'm a young downhill racer from Slovenia, Europe. My dream is to become a proffessional world cup racer and a european downhill champion. I race all IXS european cups and two World cups in Europe, because I can't afford to ride more World cups. My goal is to ride as much World Cups as possible and some day also come to USA and Canada to race World Cups.

Friend of mine just sent me this. Not sure if any of the ladies on the forum are interested.

Cap's 'The Original' is hosting their second annual Women's Ride Day in partnership with Specialized Bicycles! Cap's will be hosting this event Saturday, May 31st and would like to invite all female cyclists to join their various rides leaving from the shop on East Columbia St. in Sapperton, B.C.

The rides will start at 10:00 am and leave from Cap's 'The Original', 434 East Columbia St. in New Westminster. Bikes are available free for rental or attendees can bring their own bikes. Lunch will also be provided for all attendees.

The rides are as follows:
2hr Mountain Bike Ride (free 2014 Specialized demo bikes available for rent)
2hr Road Ride (free road bikes for rent)
1hr Casual Ride (free comfort road bikes for rent)

All rides will depart from Cap's parking lot however mountain ride attendees must provide their own transportation to the North Road trailhead on Burnaby Mountain.

We ask that those interested RSVP by phone (604-524-3611) or email (info@capsbicycleshop.com) before 10:00 am Saturday morning.

Im surprised no one recommending the any of the sell amp saddles. They are are hands down the best most "junk" friendly saddles out there for both men and women. Love mine. Also the tipped down nose is a sweet feature for us mtbers great for perching up front of climbs.

In the wake of the Kona Dew appearing a few years back, basically every bike company makes a 700c disc brake commuter bike capable of light trails (gravel or smooth singletrack). Prices generally start at about $500 for a new bike, so you can definitely get what you want for within the $700 budget.

We discuss bar width a lot at the shop.

I have found a great indicator to be push up width.
Find your strongest push up width and measure to the outside of your hands, add 1" and start from there.
Too long a bar will take you out of your strongest control position, and actually hinder cornering perfomance as the bike becomes harder to lean.

Note: I run exactly the same set up on every bike. Bar height, width, lever placement, grips. (even my stem length only changes from 40-75mm)
The closer I can get the cock pits the easier I find it to switch from bike to bike.

At 5'8" and a small/meduim build I find 29" the perfect width. Chromag OSX bars are my bar of choice.

Today is again friday,,,

This morning at a camera intersection 240th and lougheed when the left hand light turned green my brain was sleeping and went straight. I saw the cameras flash and wondered why they were going off nobody else is here then I realised I just went through a red light…

and at 2:15 i shut down my comp, packed up and went to leave.. Saw everyone still standing around and thought damn thats weird friday everyone is normally outa here at least 1/2 hour early.

Then I realised I finish work at 3:15… Darwin is trying to get rid of me today..

hullo, my special lady friend would like to learn how to ride bikes on trails. fix flats, basic trailside repairs would be a plus. are there any courses available on the north shores that she could take?

Best place to fix a flat is at home.

Just taught Joely how to do it. Gabi spent the afternoon with our friend's. Sat on the TV room couch with some beer and took her through the process. Had her watch the first time then took her through it one step at a time. Basically did it together twice. Then had her do it a couple of times on her own.

She's capable to replace a tube now.

The nice thing with indoors on the couch type thing is that there is no rush. I see far to many times people learning to do it at the side of the trail. Effective lesson but can be stressful especially when you add in weather and holding up the group factor to the equation.

patterns are really hard to find. I had a pattern maker (one of my first riding buddies) do up a couple for me way back in the day. They were based on the roach style.

Sunday morning I step off the bus and kareem straight into a garbage bin I'm so nervous and and excited. I want to run somewhere to get into the lineup but all there is is people and Im landlocked behind a corral of white bibs. I need to get ahead of them, Ive been training for months, I feel like this year I am fit and can close it up in less that an hour.
The herd moves up to the starting lineup and we walk, I thought I heard a horn a few minutes ago but that must have been for another group, we are moving like catlle through the gate and not a single person can run yet. We seem to be stuck together, nobody is giving an inch until finally after a few minutes we loosen up and I can get a pace going. Whew! The small taste of freedom doesnt last as we all stop and inch our way around a corner, the same guys has passed me 4 times and now I need to pass him. I step on it. That lady looks like she's moving, I better catch up to her. Oh my god that guy is wearing a grass skirt, I have to pass him or Ill fall over laughing.
OOOH water, I grab a cup off a kids head and throw it at my mouth, I breathe more than I swallow and look around for first aid. There is none so I keep running, we are coming up to the bridge, I love this part, I haul it up the bridge. I can feel people hating me as I sprint past them as they slow down for the climb. Ha ha! Im in the home stretch, passing granville island when I see a kid who has a shirt that says "this is my last pre-op Sun Run". I cry. Hard. Tears are streaming and I realise that I can't let this slow me down. He may be having his tonsils out or becomeing a woman for all I know. I vow to find out later and pick up the pace.

One km left, I resolve to sprint! I am fully running up the bridge, down the bridge I find a clear spot and leap over the finish line and start crying again. I realise how silly I must look, most people have crossed and look very cool and collected. Some even have great hair. I regain my composure and head over to meet the bunnies, wow, that was amazing. I cant wait to hear everyones stories.

My official time was 1hr 54 seconds. I'm sure I was faster though, I must have passed a thousand people. :D

Nice job, Darthy. You where definitely faster then the clock showed. It's one of the downsides to the Sun Run type events when you have that many people jammed into such a small area.

If you don't mind me asking, how tall is she? Or if you know her inseam, that would be nice to know too. It's great to see and hear of couples having a great time riding bikes together. :) And I think I'm envious of her for having that bike… so nice!

Sorry for taking os long to reply, I just saw the post today.

She is 5'6" and her inseam is 31" (almost 79 cm).

We had a great ride up and down Burnaby mountain last week, I am looking forward to getting Bee out on some of the shore trails this year and of course hitting up Whistler.

I've dated guys that don't ride and guys that do, and have to say that, especially with school and work, dating someone that doesn't ride doesn't really jive with my life. But I also agree it's important to do things on your own and separate from eachother. You just need to create balance. Do rides together, do rides separate, do rides at the park where you meet up at the bottom.

To the original poster, myself and a bunch of friends will be riding in Whistler June 25-28 if you want to have some people of different levels to ride with, you both would have people within your skill levels (we're a varied group).

Thanks everyone for the advice. In the end we bought a used 2007 66 ATA to see if that works for her.

I would have liked to get a Talas 36 as we have 3 Talas 32s and they've been great but there is a huge price premium for Fox. Maybe upgrade when the $$$ aren't all going to school.

I suggest creating a Bike Wanted ad here and starting a thread in the Buy Sell forum. Be specific about your budget, size and type of bike you are looking for.

I'm sure you'll find a lot of motivated sellers here who are much more knowledgeable than your average Craigslist seller. Plus the other members will be able to give you feedback/advice if needed.

That is a pretty thorough review.

It is not being marketed/hyped as a woman specific model; however, in terms of absolute standover the new Specialized Big Hit series is definitely worth looking at.

They offer more travel then the Syren, Vyxa or Minxy for a similar weight (and the standover is very good).

I also find myself taking issue with a 3k+ bike coming with Juicy 3 brakes… but that might be the new reality.

Another one that fits ladies well, for anyone else thats looking, is the 661 Race Lite Knee [HTML_REMOVED] Shin. Its low profile and wraps part way around the calf for some protection. They stay up well, but even better if you add the 661 pad locks. They have served me well!

I really think you should take another look at the Syren. It's a wonderful all around bike! I have 5 female friends all riding one and they all love it! They use it at the Shore and Whistler and regular trail riding and it can handle anything. One friend of mine was able to get her build down to 28 lbs, is that light enough?

I find that anything, if it's not loose enough, over my armour causes the armour to 'ride up' constantly. Then I'm spending a lot of my riding time adjusting my armour instead of just riding.

I usually wear men's jerseys over my armour and it doesn't ride up nearly as much.
If I wear a t-shirt then it has to be a larger sized t-shirt.

Yes, this is true with our Cycling BC sanctioned Club Rides.
But you can also go onto the Muddbunnies forums and post up rides of your own just to find other women to ride with too, similar to here on NSMB.

Amazing event! Had a great time ripping the mountain!

I did however realise that I need to "warm-up" instead of starting off cold. Tnt OWNED me… I started to feel good when we hit Corkscrew and Salvation.

On a side note I know how you women feel now, the extra weight hanging off the front of my chest gave me a sore back.

Going to practice pedalling for the Fromme A Thon in 3 weeks… only three weeks?

I second that. I got owned on TNT too. Right after we skipped the whole line 'cause ol' man T-Bone had to get to his boy's baseball game, I took a header down that wicked right hander.

In plain view of everyone lining up at the start line. Awesome.

Then again, that's what I get for putting in about 8 shore rides in the last 4 years. Glad to be back, though, lots of catching up to do.

Isn't Nepal in the midst of a bloody civil war? I heard its not such a great time to visit. Is that overstated?

As far as I know, from my connections in Nepal, it is perfectly safe. There are demonstrations that can get dangerous every now and then, but they can be avoided. It's Tibet that is a little unstable right now.

I've decided to do the uphill part of the 7th ripper and have been doing climbing rides afterwork as much as possible. We spent the wekend on the bikes and I must admit I was WORKED. I fell asleep at 6:30pm last night and didnt get up until the alarm clock went off this morning!

I messed mine up biking almost 20 years ago and its still unstabil but yoga [HTML_REMOVED] fusion definatley has fixed it up .What I found was doing a yoga lunge with the leg of the offending side trailing out behind ,pushing that hip forward would keep things from going out

the GF just messed hers up and while the physio can put it in ,it easily goes out SO the physio guy showed us how to measure leg length and put it back if necessary with 4 exercises that have her stretch against me while I hold her legs but i think she needs to do some yoga/core work

We got this kit from consumers distributors for I think around 30-40$(CD has long since gone under) ,you plug in a warming stand ,it has spots for 2 wax cartridges (one wide ,one skinny)with roller tips you swap to new cartridges .Plug it in for 20min let the wax get nice n hot ,roll a layer of the wax on ,smooth downwards on a cloth strip (cloth with the open weave .. muslin?) and RIP up wards ,the cloth will have all the hair [HTML_REMOVED] wax stuck to it.

I did this quite a few times for the mrs,she seemed to think it worked pretty much as well as a pro job at the salon so I will take her word cuz I got no idea what i was doing or how its supposed to happen but all i know is it saved 30$ a shot AND …it didnt hurt me a bit

Check out the town of Fairhaven, which is just south of Bellingham (I think the exit is marked as either Chuckanut Drive or Fairhaven). The town, besides being a nice place to grab a coffee, is also filled with great artisans shops. The Chuckanut is also a really nice drive, a nice change for the I5 in any case. It spits you out near Mount Vernon…

Also, when it comes to cycling gear, avoid the colour grey. I had a beautiful gray Arcteryx jacket and it was basically pavement camouflaged. Even scarier at night or in the rain. Best to get bright colours. Anything to help cars see you is a good thing.

Good on you for bike commuting. I'm just getting prepped for the my early morning ride into work now.

Thanks everyone for the information; advise; and tips. I just finished the first coat of Tung Oil and it looks pretty darn good. Trout: I know you said go toxic or go home but…I just had to atleast try the bio-degradable (the tree hugger in me was coming out) and it worked really well. It was a Circa product.

Unfortunately they had to cancel it and cease all building. Ontario is not a happy place these days - everyone feels the need to sue. Blue Mountain just had to pull down anything that would let you get air - natural and man-made features are all flattened. So sad.

Louise didn't have to plan a route at PABI, and Seattle IS home turf for KTJ.

The Outdoor Industries Women's Coalition (OIWC) is presenting two awards in 2007 that honor women leaders in the bicycle industry. The Pioneering Woman Award recognizes a "maven of mentoring," and the First Ascent Award acknowledges an industry newcomer who demonstrates strong leadership potential. The deadline to submit nominations for both awards is August 9, 2007. Nominations can be submitted online at www.oiwc.org.

The winner of the Bicycle Industry Pioneering Woman Award will be announced at Interbike on September 27th, 2007 at The Gathering, an OIWC event. The winner will receive $1,000 to be donated to a charity of her choice in her name.

In addition to the Pioneering Woman award, the OIWC recently created the First Ascent Award and is introducing it in the bicycle industry for the first time during Interbike. This award recognizes a woman new to the industry who demonstrates strong potential for leadership. The winner of the First Ascent Award receives $1,000 to apply to a leadership training of her choice, plus airfare to the training. This award furthers the vision of OIWC by facilitating and nurturing the leadership skills of women at lower levels in an organization.

I'm looking for a little advice from the ladies here. a friend is looking to buy a bike, and me being a bike guy, I've been reeled in to help.

I'm having a fitting dilema, she is one of those mid sized leggy ladies. basicly the choices come down to a norco FR HT or one of those Kona DJ frames. any of you have any insight into the fit of these bikes in an all around trail use setting? does the shorter TT on the Kona DJ's fit the ladies better. or is she better off going with the upped parts spec and longer TT on the Norco?

she is an inexperianced rider and I know from experiance, that when buying your first trail bike, a good fit in the store does not always translate into a great feeling bike on the trail.

throw me a frickin bone here.

my pt says that cortizone makes you gain weight, so beware

this is one of the more dangerous "drugs" available. Just check with a reliable source of information about medicines and how they may affect the human body.

Cortisone is known to "kill" people who have "weak" hearts. And they can stop the heart beating in people who suffer from an asthma attack - no joke.

Gaining weight is (by comparison) something minor for the male population, whereas….for the girls….;) …the age old drama :)

i had a hell of a time finding small pads..but yeah the beast gear seems good (my girlfriend likes them) and I just bought some six six ones which don't have a hard shell but are still really protective and they are super light and breathable…I got them at cove and I haven't seen them anywhere else.. good luck

A brew may aslo tame warward retirees with dogs who meander into race courses oblivious to the dangers. I didn't want to start anything with him, dentures can leave a pretty good mark if they hit you right. Thank god his wife stepped in.

I know she's on the Sunshine Coast Saturday [HTML_REMOVED] Sunday for the Rat Race, but she might be available on the Monday or Tuesday to ride with you.
Have you checked Gutsploder for the Woodlot trail map?

As for Eagle Mountain, that is about a 30 minute drive West from the Woodlot in Port Moody/Coquitlam.

Unfortunately, I'm also on the Coast this weekend for the Rat Race and I work Monday [HTML_REMOVED] Tuesday so I can't hook up with you myself.

The thing that i find pisses me off is that all the "active" clothing companies out there are using models that have not one ounce of muscle. Tons of mountain bike clothing companies make clothing for "girls" that don't fit if you have any shoulder strength or quad strength.
Maybe it's just me but, it drives me crazy.

it's not just "active" clothing, i have issues finding ready to wear clothing that fits properly for just that reason. that was also my issue with the sombrio previous women's line.

Saturday was phenominal! So much fun. Huge props to the ride leaders for showing us where its at. Sunday wasn't so good. I rode the laundry trails all day and encountered a flurry of dustbunnies and periods dishpan hands. I tried to get through the dirty sock obstacles but ended up winded and worn out in the recycling bin. Things looked bleak. After I got through the dish jumps I met trouble at the couch log and had to rest. Thank god the martini fairy showed up and lent a hand.

Wow.. thank god I folded that shirt for you… you would have been in pieces… I can give it to Dorothy and she can pass it on!

I rode for the first few months (didn't know I was pregnant), also went surfing till about 5 months (then it was just uncomfortable)
I stopped riding b/c I had a bad dream one night where I crashed on my bike and I woke up thinking that it only takes a few seconds to crash, and the repercussions are pretty severe, so for myself it just didn't seem worth it after that.
Besides, my husband started dissasembling my DH bike!!!

A couple of comments - one of our female testers will be previewing and reviewing some Harlot Wear gear on the site in the near future. The tester in question likes to be girly when she's off the bike, but isn't a fan of pink or baby blue riding gear. Plus, she's tiny and got curves. Watch for that (the write-up, not the curves ;)).

I have a suggestion: it may be more beneficial for women's reviews if there is more than one person trying clothes out. If there are different people of different body types and with different expectations giving reviews, then it would give us a better idea of what REALLY to expect out of the clothes. I think the one thing that you can really see emergent from any of these fashion threads is that women have extremely varied body types and what one thinks of clothing (and how that clothing fits them) may not be true for all.

I can read all the reviews I want from someone with a different body type, but if they don't REALLY know what its like to have extra curves, or no curves, or whatever, then they can't really tell me what to expect from the fit.

i hate bike shorts/pants labelled small/medium/large - i much prefer the actual waist size listed (32/34 etc) as its more realistic. i have some old roach pants that are labelled that way.

It's a slight improvement doing the numbers. But it's still inaccurate as it's still interpreted differently by each manufacturer.

Joely has a pair of long shorts for riding that fit her. Yet tried on the same size from a different company and they where tight, acccording to her it was uncomfortable.

It is almost like buying running shoes. Find something that works for you and buy as many extras as you can as they probably won't be available next year.

jeez, I suddenly feel like I'm living in the US. This is not "Let's Sue-istan" folks.

First off, I suspect if you have suffered some real and material loss, you should be compensated. It doesn't sound like you did. I suspect it 'stung', but did you really suffer any loss?

Secondly, yep your employer is obligated to have a workplace injury policy (they can access everything online from WorkSafeBC) in place and what Tom has referred to is correct. Frankly, I'm not surprised that they are unaware. When you open a business, no one holds your hand thru this process. When that first accident comes along, you learn. While there are some knucklehead employers out there, I wouldn't automatically assume they are dirtbags who would really rather be running a child-labour, sweat-shop where they can really have their way with the staff.

Thirdly, while it is critically important that you log this event with a first-aid report, I would not necessarily jump to filing a claim with WorkSafeBC. If you didn't suffer real loss, this is a big fat waste of time and may inadvertantly trigger a change in your bosses WorkSafeBC rates that they have to pay. This won't cost you anything but will unneccessarily jack up his costs. If you had to pay for seeing a doc or you had to buy some cream, give your employer a chance to pay for this stuff directly. It is in his best interest to take care of you in this (it will cost him less in the long run). Be decent to them and you could be surprised.

Fourth, if your employer turns out to be a douche-bag, all bets are off…..

What!!!!! Don't let him get rid of your bike…. you should be able to mount it to the walls on the garage pretty cheaply, or something! Sometimes I think we have too many bikes, and then I get to go use one of the ones that I rarely use and I remember why I keep that bike around…

Plus, if you want to go to a skate park of the skate barn you can always see if sean and I want to go. :) That way you can always make the argument that you actually do use it!

Ha ha. Well it is a loaner, not mine. Still, I've gotten attached to seeing it in our stable…ahem. And by the way, we've got 4 bikes mounted on the walls and two hanging from the ceiling on pulleys! Plus Ray is starting to build up his Superlight! But yeah, I'm thinking I need my OWN bmx bikey. But what kind to get - park or race??? I do have the Trailer Park hardtail so I can use that in the Skatebarn. We'll definitely let ya know when we go to the Skatebarn - it might be Thursday if we get rained out on our Worm ride this Wed.

We're hoping that the proceeds from the Abby BMX/Muddbunnies clinic will be enough for us to pay to become a Cycling BC recognized riding club (as the calendar sales were not enough).
Our goal is to have regular weekly rides in the spring led by some of the Bunnies in addition to our Racing Team. For now continue to check in on our site as I will notify everyone when we officially begin signing up members.
Lastly, we will be offering more clinics in Spring and Summer 2007.

Ladies Only • New to the Shore

All the trails off North Road on the East side of the mountain are good, but the WEST side is DEVASTATED all the trails are a mess. All the TREEs are on the ground.
The North Road trails are all XC pedaling type trails good in either direction, if your looking to get a DH fix short and sweet, you have a 20-30 minute climb up Trans Canada trail then cut through the campus to the trail head which is near the Science Building AKA Garden Drop. The trail drops down through the woods and dumps you out on University Drive, which you cross to get on to Mels trail , leads to Nicoles trail. Nicoles takes you back down to the bottom of the Mountain, then it's a short pedal back up to North Rd . There are other ways down the Mountain, which are not as popular but you kind need some one to lead the way.

major props to you for setting it all up and for putting up with my mediocre skiing skills :P

I took my patience pill in the morning and just took it as a fun chill day. I love skiing and so I was happy to organize this, especially since a few women had been wanting to hit the slopes.

I had a great with you ladies and we've got some great memories from it. I'm now looking forward to hitting the MB trails where you will have to put up with my mediocre biking skills Lady Gravity :).

Actually today I went to Blackcomb with some other friends and had pow all day. Crystal chair was closed and so there was a lot to be found with a little hike.

I love the gym. I love how I feel after I love how good I feel anytime I am angry or frustrated about anything I go to the gym to let out steam. I am stronger and I look better. I do jog outside, but I find that I easily make excuses on why not to do excersise outdoors, at the gym I go with my boyfriend and we both push each other and if you have someone you are meeting or going with you are less likely to cancel or skip it…..plus who doesn't like seeing defined arms and abs :)

I don't have a BMW SUV nor would I want to…. I think the design and paint looks killer and a lot of others agree. Props to the big S for boldly going where no other bike companies have been.

Its quite simple, if you don't like it, don't buy it.

whoa. i am really into ta2s and all i said was that they could have spent a bit more time on it. the basic idea is great, agreed - but not the realisation. anyways, what you say is true. i do not like and i won't buy it. as i said there are some pretty good artists around who would have done the job even better.

Meet at 10:00 am at the water tower. The ride is a XC course with low bridges, and optional skinnies and log rides. All levels are welcome! Big heavy DH bikes can be used but the track is fairly level with moderate uphill so it will be a good workout. After the ride we can session the jump park, and drop zone!
I'm also planing a sunday session as Fromme will not work out ( poop ). I will be riding my black, red and silver Schwinn. Most likely be wearing a yellow rain jacket.
The course is located by Softball City in South Surrey. Take 152nd south to 20th, the turn right. (near the DQ) Take another right at the roundabout and you will enter the parking lot. The water tower is beside the tennis courts.

it's not pain relief, it's homeopathic healing. it can't hurt, so why not give it a shot. it comes in pills and cream, i try and take it whenever i hurt myself since i usually get muscle damage.

well, at this point I will try anything that might help, since anti inflams, physio and easing up on the training hasn't. The good news is that I finally convinced the medicos that it needed to be xrayed, since it has been over two months and I'm still limping.

Hi all!

I am thinking and planning to bike across Canada and I would LOVE to stop for a while in Whistler for some downhilling.. (I guess I'll rent a bike there or get my dh bike ship from home) for a few weeks or days. I would like to know if you know people that could offer me room and board? I don't mind sleeping in my tent in the backyard, as long as I have a safe place to put my bike! Please let me know :)

I am planning to do the biking across Canada with my new ride, titus motolite.. hihihi perhaps not the best bike to bike across Canada, but the best bike to stop in all those little trail places where I want to ride along the way hihihi :)

If you have any tips, let me know :) I would also love to stop around Squamish and Kamloops area so if any of you want to meet and go riding or offer me room [HTML_REMOVED] board (again I don't mind sleeping in the backyard with my tent) for 1 night, let me know :) Thanks !!! :)

I started riding last April when I started seeing a boy mountain biker. I borrowed his bike at first and we rode the North road trails at SFU. My second day on a mountain bike he took me down Nicole's and I haven't looked back. Sure, there was lots I couldn't do but riding with someone more experienced totally motivated me to try new stuff everytime. I can pretty much ride the whole thing now (except the jumps-still haven't been able to get air, not even off curbs, but that's another topic.) As far as the climb goes, I was totally intimidated at first and it never gets what I would call easy but improving cardio will only help with the ride down. We ALWAYS take a break at the top (Science building) and let our heart rates get back to normal, so the ride down is still good. anyway, my advice from a relative beginner is just to go for it!!

So, I've got a couple of weeks vacation starting next weekend (along with the hubby) and the first stop is Kamloops on the 19 - 21…

If any of the local gals (or others) are around, it would be fun to meet up for a ride. We're hoping to hit Harper and Lolo (no Sunpeaks this time, been there already).

One other tip (for DH) that might not be so easy to pick out from a video…learning what line to take on a race course.

I took a learn to race DH clinic that was put on by Cycling BC way back when..one of the most useful parts I found was walking through the course with the instructor and also watching other riders take various lines thorugh different sections of the course, then working on those sections ourselves. Stacy's suggestion of the video camera would work well here (if you've got access to one).

(Doesn't seem that Cycling BC does these any more - perhaps check out Shaums' clinics?)

Man, you guy's are giving me alot to think about for next year when I move back.

Plus, for arguments sake, there are frame manufacturers out there who'll make a frame that will fit you (Ie: Knolly).

I ride a XS Knolly V-Tach frame with a 24" rear (I'm 5'2" with short legs). With how the rear suspension was set up initially, a 26" wheel would hit the seat when the shock was compressed, so I've used the 24" from the start. I'm now running a different shock and it is set up differently and could now accommodate a 26", though I still run the 24" wheel. I don't believe that it holds me back in any aspect of my riding. I may move to a 26" wheel, but I'm not one for trying to "fix what ain't broke" :-)

Yeah, sorry about the name jacking!

The park is in New Jersey and it's getting bigger every year. It's nice to see it grow.

The 661 pads are awesome. I always get scraped up more from the velcro on leg armor then actually crashing. I feel naked without anything on my shins but I love those knee pads. I got them in medium and they fit great.

Had a great weekend of biking/skiing with this awesome guy I met recently :D

Rode Pemby for the 1st time on saturday (Thanks Sharon [HTML_REMOVED] Lee for being guides), did overnight sensation [HTML_REMOVED] creampuff.
Skiied Whistler on sunday (if you read this Sharon, I now agree with you, the ski season is over, but I'm still a little :crybaby: about it, I guess I'll have to bike lots to get over it).
Monday, rode Pemby again (meat grinder [HTML_REMOVED] PhD)
Great trails in Pemby…

Sadly here in TO there isn't much women's only type stuff. Plus if you don't have a car it kind of limits travel.

A weekend camp might just be perfect if you don't have a car.

I've done some weekend camps and you definitely come home completely exhausted but with so much excitement about riding and a new group of riders to hang with! Most of the girls I ride with regularly, I met on a Whistler weekend. We've all advanced and helped each other over the years. It was the best birthday present ever!!

Cheryl is indeed an awesome person in Kamloops. My wife and I were in the Bicycle Cafe this weekend (while visiting the folks) and within minutes she was helping us with information about conditions and where to ride.

I never wear my wedding ring while riding or while working. Have you ever seen a picture of what can happen if the ring gets caught on something? It's called "de-gloving" and it's pretty gross. The ring can rip all the flesh right off your finger.

Hey there girls! I have got the ultimate get fit routine… spend a few sundays with us fixing up the trails!
At first I didnt think that I could do much but anyone who can haul dirt or the smaller sized rocks can greatly add to the effort. We can also cut wood for stakes and make great counterwieghts. As a trail builder you have a say in how the trail gets built and the guys we've been working with are real team players and nobody gets left out. Check out the new stuff on Natural High, I helped on that! The little fern garden on the right side of the trail is my work. ( have to keep it pretty right!)
Im hoping to get up to Seymour Trails days April 9th and hope to see some chicks out there, I cant be the only one.

I am still sometimes a bit shaky on the gate. Once I actually fell sideways off the gate and swan dove down a 10 ft mound of loose dirt. My face was black, and I got dirt down my shirt and pants.
The girl I was lined up with was looking the other way, and when she looked back I had vanished. It was comical.
Thank god, it was during practice only, and not too many spectators were at the bike show yet.

I swear, I am the queen of doing stupid things on my bike…

I totally remember that - you almost landed on me- I was busy talking and waiting for my turn on the gate and then there you where - I remember just being so worried you where gonna miss the dirt and land right on the cement floor..

One thing to add - get fit and stay fit. The more tired you are during a ride, the less confident you will feel and the sloppier you will ride. So, if you get as fit as you can, everything gets easier.

Progression and practice are key - for drops, find 2 footer you are comfortable with and go over it again and again and again - faster and faster. Pretty soon it will feel like a curb - so find a 3 footer etc.

Also - a good trick for drops and jumps is stair cases - if you don't clear the entire stair case, you land on the stairs - which are basically a bumpy tranny. I spent hours and hours a couple of years ago practicing stair jumps, and it really helped me get better at drops. If you know you can clear 6 stairs, you can easily do a 4 foot drop!

For Skinnies - ride curbs. This is something I do all the time, and has helped with logs, ladders and skinnies.

I was a Dizzies a few years back getting something and I saw a sign near the cash register.

It said "Wednesday night Beginners Ride. Ladies Only". I told the person behind the desk I didn't think that was a good choice for beginners.

We exchanged mutual confusion for a couple of moments before everything got sorted out.

This isn't quite the same though…..

I have been outta boarding for a couple years now but the snow has been so good lately I have had to go. So then yesterday I am reading Transworld Snowboarding and I start to notice almost 50% of the ads and contents features female riders. Not just two or three but hundreds of em!
Biking is next for sure. Imagine if there were hundreds of sponsored girls in every magazine shredding on their bikes! How cool to think about?

I know everyone is really busy right now but I wanted to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and safe travels if you are leaving town. i could bring my ht; what are the dj's like over there? Where are they? Oh, and i'm a little jump dj'er…the 'big' side at Myrtle are the limit, and the old left side of Oak street were definitely the biggest i would brave (to give you an idea)
As for urban and park…well, i could try. Entertainment value would be high.:lol:

they are pretty decent, we just built some smaller ones that even I can hit em. and well i just started. there are like 3 diff. rows of gap jumps with a spine and a quater pipe. so its a big variaty! Plus out in North Saanich we just built some more, about 50 tables or somthing like that, its huge. and those are definently doable. And at Hartland there are some pretty decent jumps and riding.
